The Benefits of Drinking Lemon Water Every Morning

lemon water benefits

Have you tried this one, super simple morning trick yet?

I've been consistently drinking a glass of room temperature lemon water first thing in the morning for the past month or so. I was honestly skeptical of the effects, even though everything I've read tells me how beneficial it is for our health.

And my results? It's true! I've noticed a big difference in my digestion, skin, and morning energy levels.

Benefits of Drinking Lemon Water

1. Aides Digestion

The vitamins and minerals in lemon juice help to flush out and remove toxins from our digestive tract. Lemon water also hydrates our colon and helps to stimulate morning bowel movements.

Also, as lemon juice is a similar pH to our stomach acid, it aids in digestion and helps reduce bloating, heartburn, and acid reflux. It also encourages the liver to produce bile (which helps us our breakdown food) and certain compounds that aid in cleansing and regenerating liver cells.

2. Boots Immunity

The Vitamin C in lemon juice is great for strengthening the immune system. Lemons also have antibacterial and antiviral properties that help us fight off any nasty critters.

3. Clears the Skin

Hydration is key for clear skin, and drinking water first thing in the morning when we're dehydrated from the night before is a great way to start the day. Plus, Vitamin C helps our body produce collagen (which is key in fighting wrinkles!).

4. Increases Energy & Brain Function

For me, lemon water gives an instant boost of energy when I start my day. It contains high levels of potassium and magnesium which are beneficial to brain and nerve health. These minerals give your brain a kickstart and can help fight stress too!

Here's how I make it easy for me each morning.

On Sundays, I cut up two organic lemons into four wedges each and store them in a glass container in the fridge. This way, I don't have to think about cutting up a lemon while groggy-eyed in the morning. Upon waking, just squeeze a wedge into your glass and fill with 8 ounces of room temperature or slightly warm water. Drink, and you're done! (Just be sure to rinse with a little plain water to protect your tooth enamel.)

Try to wait roughly 20 minutes after drinking the lemon water before having coffee or breakfast. You've gotta let it do it's magic!

This is truly one of the simplest things you can immediately start doing for your health.
