Everyday Oatmeal

My basic, everyday, go-to oatmeal recipe. It's simple, yet satisfying, and enough of a blank canvas to accommodate any number of toppings or add-ins. 

Everyday Oatmeal

Serves 1 (easily doubled)

1/3 cup rolled oats
2/3 cup filtered water
pinch sea salt
dash cinnamon
1/4 cup almond or cashew milk

Optional additions:
1 Tbs. nut butter
1 tsp. coconut oil
1 Tbs. shredded coconut flakes
1/2 banana
1/4 cup berries
2 Tbs. dried fruit

Topping ideas:
Maple syrup
Nut milk
Chopped nuts
Cacao nibs
Hemp seeds
Fresh fruit. 

In a small saucepan, soak oats in filtered water overnight or while you're in the shower. When ready to eat, turn the heat to medium and add salt + cinnamon. Stir to combine and let simmer 3-5 minutes, reducing the heat to low if needed and stirring occasionally. Once all of the water has been absorbed, mix in almond milk and simmer another 2-3 minutes until creamy. (At this point, when you add the almond milk, you can also add in extras such as a spoon of almond butter or a sliced banana.)

To serve, top with a splash of maple syrup and more almond milk.
