Stress-Relieving Turmeric Latte

Building a business is no joke. And adding that on top of everything else life throws at me can be quite stressful - to say the least! 

But as a health coach, I know managing that stress is key to feeling energized and doing my best work. So, in addition to practicing deep breathing throughout the day (the easiest form of meditation for me), I love making one of these lattes to decompress in the evening.

If you don't have turmeric in your panty, run out and get some asap! It's one of the most health supportive ingredients you can have on hand - bursting with antioxidants, phytonutrients, and other anti-inflammatory compounds. It's exactly what our body needs to reset after a hectic day. 

Stress-Relieving Turmeric Latte

1 cup light organic coconut milk (canned, not refrigerated)
1/4 - 1/2 tsp. ground turmeric (to taste)
1/4 tsp. vanilla extract
several dashes cinnamon
dash cardamon
2 grinds black pepper (increases absorption of curcumin, the healing component in turmeric)
raw honey, to taste

Whisk all ingredients, except honey, together and heat over low in a small saucepan until steaming. Do not boil.

Transfer mixture to mug and stir in honey to taste. Sprinkle with additional cinnamon, relax, and enjoy!

Notes:

For a frothier latte, add honey then use a small electric whisk or add the mixture to your Vitamix and blend on high for a minute or so.

I often add one or two other adaptogens to my lattes depending on my body's needs: maca for a little energy, reishi or ashwaghanda to relax, astralagus for an immune boost, or ginger for tummy taming. 

You can also use cashew or almond milk for this latte. If you do, add a teaspoon or so of coconut oil while heating. The fat helps your body absorb the feel good properties of turmeric - similar to the black pepper. I find that when adding coconut oil, it's best to blend the mixture to ensure it's fully emulsified.
